David Colin Burke - Managing Investments through Tuolumne Partners

An experienced investment management professional, David Colin Burke draws upon more than 25 years of direct investment, venture capital, and private equity experience to teach the World of Investing and International Relations course at the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia (UVA). He also sponsors the Human Rights Clinic at UVA Law and serves as a special advisor for global experiences for the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program at Stanford University. In addition to his involvement with the aforementioned educational institutions, David Colin Burke manages the family investment office Tuolumne Partners LP.

Mr. Burke previously served as the CEO of Makena Capital Management, LLC, which he cofounded in 2005 and grew into one of the world’s most successful investment management firms with more than 18 partners and in excess of $20 billion of assets under management. Under his direction, the Menlo Park, California-based firm expanded its operations to include additional offices in New York and London. He previously worked as the managing director of Stanford Management Company and The Investment Fund for Foundations.

In the 1990s, Mr. Burke worked as an international capital markets attorney at Linklaters LLP. Prior to that, he served as an associate at Bingham McCutchen LLP. He also worked as a research analyst at Strategic Planning Associates in Washington, DC. An alumnus of UVA, he received his MA in international relations, a JD, and a BS in finance from the institution.
